This is the first step in the process, the second is getting these opinions heard. It’s clear that the community has it’s own ideas on what needs to be done. I received over 80 unique responses to this question. Is there anything else you think could be done to grow E-sports? It can’t be done on a player by player basis, it’s up to the big guys, the developers and gaming organisations to take push the scene up the stairs. When players are on contracts with big name sponsors behind their backs, they will have to be more professional. A bigger following for E-sports, more frequent LAN tournaments and bigger prize pools will bring player contracts to the fore. It is likely that some of the other things will come hand in hand with an increase in popularity. Although it could be argued that some of these rely on the maturity of the players and community, the respondents of survey feel as though it is up to the big organisations to raise the profile of E-sports. The next factors in the list show as much more LAN tournaments, professional sponsors and bigger prize pools. It’s clear that the community feels that the onus lies with the developers and organisations such as MLG to take E-sports to the next level. While sitting narrowly in second place, Developer support had the highest percentage of ‘Essential’ votes at 64.14%. Infinity Ward on the other hand have produced an awkwardly unbalanced game with nearly no attention paid to the competitive scene at all. Treyarch have been very supportive of the competitive scene, giving the players an excellently balanced game with in-game leagues which the community also value fairly highly. It’s clear this is one of the main issues surrounding the transition between Black Ops 2 and Ghosts. Game Balance and Developer support came up a very close first and second. On a scale of 1-8 how important are each of these factors to the growth of competitive E-sports, with 1 being completely unnecessary and 8 being absolutely essential? The convenience will always be there whether or not TV does pick up E-sports and it’s easy to see why people chose to use streams as their main way of following the games. There is the question of whether or not online streaming is the ideal platform or just the only one available when TV networks are yet to pick up dedicated E-sports channels. Sony and Microsoft have already increased the accessibility of the platform through integrated streaming in their new consoles, the PS4 and XboxOne respectively. This just shows how integral streaming services are to the growth of E-sports. My results showed that a whopping 98% of respondents follow E-sports over streams. I designed the questions in relation to the topics that had come up during my last few weeks looking at this issue. The survey was looking at exactly what the community feels should be being done to help the E-sports scene to grow. Hosted by 44 Bytes.Last week, to address my concerns with the direction that E-sports is taking, I put out a survey across many different E-sports communities and got over 300 responses. © 2023 Hookshot Media, partner of ReedPop. I'm fine with either game but I much prefer the one with higher player count for obvious reasons. Its fast paced and fits my play style more than other shooters, but without Advanced Warfare on WiiU (Which was definitely a fun time) I'm not sure which one to buy. One thing I will miss however are first person shooters. (Along with the obvious Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, and Smash.) Most of my friends in the area don't have either and have a WiiU instead and after playing some at my friends house and some new E3 trailers (Splatoon looks amazingly fun), I decided to go buy one within the next week. ![]() After having both a PS4 and Xbox One, I decided that, while the former was a great console, neither were my cup of tea.
